Your Thoughts on this ABSURD NCAAB Tournament

Whether it were upsets or bad calls, everyone's bracket is busted. Virginia Commonwealth wasn't supposed to make it out of the first round; they also weren't supposed to beat USC in the play-in game. However, the Rams just earned a ticket to Houston. Also, lets face it, there were some pretty awful calls in the Texas game; but that is a different story. As the tourney is ending, what do you think about it? Is this a reason to hate or love the NCAA?

Is the NFL Declining?

This new kickoff rule has really set off a lot of Nfl fans and with the lockout situation,  some believe the Nfl is not as great as it was. Some think that the Nfl is taking safety to the next level. With the possibility of no gridiron this season, what sport will you watch/follow?

Whom Do the Phillies Turn to in the Absence of Chase Utley?

With the injury to Chase Utley, a hole is left in the Phillies infield. How the Phillies will fill this hole, is still unknown. In fact, the significance of Utley's injury is not yet known either. Wilson Valdez, who filled in for the injured Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins last season, can be a quick fix for the Phillies. Valdez did a great job filling in for these two key players, and did a great job as a bench player as well, hitting .258 over the entire 2010 season. Valdez is also a great fielder. Last season, he only committed 2 errors and assisted on 35 double plays. However, if Utley's injury is severe, it is likely the Phillies will try to sign an infielder. With the tight budget and lack of prospects, Ruben Amaro has already stated no trade will be made for an infielder.

Who else is available for the Phillies to play second base? Michael Martinez, the rule 5 draft pick from the Nationals, could play some games at second. He is an utility player, who can play both outfield and infield. But, like Valdez if Utley's injury is serious, Martinez is a long term fix. Martinez will be a great bench player, but cannot play everyday.

So who can fill in for Chase Utley everyday? With the Mets releasing Luis Castillo, there may be an answer to that question. Luis Castillo has failed to fulfill expectations with the Mets, but still is a talent the Phillies could use with he absence of Utley. Castillo is a good fielder, only committing 2 errors last season and assisting on 38 double plays. He also still has above average speed, stealing 8 bases and only being caught three times. Most importantly, he'd be seeing good pitches hitting at the bottom of a Phillies lineup with Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Raul Ibanez and Shane Victorino all hitting ahead of him. Castillo can be a great asset to the Phillies until Utley returns, and also can be a great bench player later in the season. Look to see the Phillies sign Castillo in the near future.

Nfl Offseason: What the Eagles Need to Address

And yet, another disappionting season for the Eagles.

How can the season be disappointing? They beat the Giants twice and won the division.

That is not enough for Philadelphia fans. It is Super Bowl victory or bust for Eagles fans, and once again, there was no super bowl victory. The Eagles still have yet to win a Super Bowl.

Even with the reemergence of Michael Vick, the Eagles once again could not get the job done in the postseason. Major changes need to be made in the offseason in order for a super bowl run next year.

Here are some things the Eagles front office should consider this offseason:

1) Lock Desean Jackson up long term

Despite Desean's late season struggles, he is the second most important player on this Eagles team, behind Mike Vick.

There's no question Desean is an essential part of this team.

He is debatably the most electrifying player in the league along with Vick, Desean Jackson has to be re-signed. Jackson caught 47 passes this season for 1,056 yards and a league leading 22.5 yards per catch ratio.

He's a game changer. Even when Desean's not effective in the passing game, he will change the game. Not to mention his 65 yard punt return touchdown to cap of the Miracle at the New Meadowlands.

2) Trade Kevin Kolb

The Eagles might have a hard time moving Kevin Kolb, as he is an unproven quarterback who has little experience.

He has the tools and potential to be a decent starter in this league, but the Eagles have found their franchise quarterback in Michael Vick. He has decent mobility and an above average arm.

The management has demanded two first round picks for him—that is absurd. To give two top picks for an unproven player will never happen.

Take just one first rounder, maybe even just a second round and third round pick, and let Kolb walk. The Eagles defense has a lot of work to do and extra picks will help.

3) Draft or sign a shut down cornerback

The Eagles secondary was mediocre at best. Asante Samuel was second in the league in interceptions with seven, but he is no shut down corner. For all of his career, he has been a gambler.

Asante tries to jump routes constantly for interceptions and getting beat often on deep routes is not uncommon to see from Samuel.

Above is the man who has led the worst red zone defense since 2009.
Dimitri Patterson, a young corner, was terrible down the stretch. He was torn up by a wide receiver playing quarterback in Joe Webb.

Nnamdi Asomugha, a top corner will be a free-agent this offseason. Hopefully, unlike we've seen in the past, the Eagles management will make a push and sign a big name like Asomugha. Also, Champ
Bailey and Antonio Cromartie are free agents this year, and the Eagles should make a push for one of those players if not Asomugha.

4) Draft or sign a big name linebacker

The worst red zone defense since 2009 has belonged to the Eagles. A big part of that is a lack of a linebacker core.

The Eagles seemed to improve this year until a big injury of Stewart Bradley; Ernie Sims was supposed to be a big addition, but it was not enough. The Eagles cannot rely on injury-prone Bradley as the core of the defense.

I would say they need a linebacker in the middle to lead the defense like Ray Lewis, but every team needs a leader like that. A more reasonable player to sign would be a flex player like Jason Taylor, who can come off the edge and rush, and stop the run.

5) Sign or draft a right tackle

Sure, there's Jason Peters, an all-pro LEFT tackle. That would be great to protect Kevin Kolb's blindside, but Mike Vick is the Eagles franchise quarterback, not Kevin Kolb.

A quality right tackle would be a great asset to protect Vick's blindside. Winston Justice is just not a quality right tackle. That showed in back end of the season.

The Fall of Villanova

Last night Villanova lost to USF in the first round of the Big East Tournament. USF is the worst team in the BIg East. 'Nova finished the regular season at 21-10 and 9-9 in the Big East, losing 6 of the last 8 Big East games. Then after losing their postseason opener, they fell onto the bubble of the NCAA tournament. They are now unranked, and have fallen to a projected 11 seed in the tournament by ESPN.com's Joe Lunardi. In the preseason polls, Villanova was ranked number six. Corey Fisher has finished the season terribly, and Corey Stokes has missed four games. Not to mention, Mouphtaou Yarou was recently injured. Villanova already lacks an inside presence, and now there center is injured.

Jay Wright has not found a lineup that has worked for him yet. Switching soon-to-be-star Maalik Wayns in and out of the starting lineup sure has not worked. Also, as of late, the bench play has been terrible. Yesterday in the USF game, Dominic Cheek let Anthony Crater drive right past him for the Go-ahead layup, and Maurice Sutton fouled out. Sutton is a big man coming off the bench, and once again the Wildcats lack big men. In crunch time, not having an inside presence really hurt them. For all you college basketball fanatics, do not pick Villanova to go far in your brackets.

Domonic Brown Injury: Why it is a good thing for the Phillies

Domonic Brown is the tenth best prospect in the majors according the ESPN.com's analyst Keith Law. Recently, Brown fractured his hamate bone in his hand. Surgery will be required, and he will have to miss 4-6 weeks. Currently, Ben Francisco is in line for the starting right field job. Before the injury, Brown and Francisco were battling for the right field starting position. Brown had a very unimpressive spring before injuring himself, batting an abysmal .063 avg and slugging percentage. Francisco on the other hand has batted .364 and has a .417 on base percentage. He also has an .818 slugging percentage. No, an .818 slugging percentage is not exaggeration! Fransico is a tested veteran who has had success in a bench role with the Phillies. Brown on the other hand, has very little MLB experience. Last season in a bench role as a september call-up, Brown hit .212 with 2 home runs. There is way too much pressure as a highly touted prospect, filling in for Jayson Werth, on a team with the highest expectations in Baseball. Time in the minors will benefit Brown, who needs to get his swing straight. The Phillies staff has been toying with Domonic's swing and his hand placement on the bat. Brown needs to find the way he is confortable swinging the bat. With some work, Domonic Brown has the potential to be a great right fielder in the Major League. Emphasis on WORK. Brown needs to work on his game and mature before he is ready to succeed in the majors.

Biggest Disappointments of the College Basketball Season

The 2010-2011 college basketball season has been one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory. Some teams have not succeeded how they were expected this season. As the regular season comes to a conclusion, here are the biggest disappointments of the year.

1) Michigan State
When Duke won the national championship last year, many analysts chose Michigan State to be the 2011 champion. The Spartans were ranked number 2 in the nation when the preseason polls were released. At the end of the regular season, they are not ranked and are currently on Joe Lunardi's first four out of the NCAA tournament. They finished 17-13 and 9-9 in the Big Ten. Korie Lucious and Chris Allen were dismissed from the team, and Durell Summers had temper and consistency issues. Kalin Lucas also did not have the season expected of him.

2) Villanova
Villanova is another team that had high expectations. With three returning seniors in the starting lineup, the Wildcats got off to a great start. They only had one out of conference loss. 'Nova finished 21-10 and 9-9 in the BIg East. The worst part is that they are entering march on a downward spiral, losing 6 of there last 8 games. Corey Fischer has struggled as of late, and Corey Stokes has missed four games. Those two leaders of the team need to step up in March in order for a late run.

3) Butler
How could a 22-9 team be a disappointment? After making a cinderella run last year in March all the way to the finals, the Butler Bulldogs are on the bubble for this years tournament. This year, the Bulldogs finished 13-5 in conference play, and last year they were undefeated. If the Bulldogs do not beat Milwaukee for the Horizon league title they will be sweating on selection sunday. The Bulldogs lost star Gordon Heyward, but returned Matt Howard and Shelvin Mack. In the preseason polls, Butler was ranked number 18. Most of the team returned from last year, so even though the regular season was a disappointment dont count out Butler to win a few games in the tournament.

4) Baylor
Yes, the Bears did lose their star point guard Tweety Carter. They did return LaceDarius Dunn, and added freshman "Diaper Dandy" Perry Jones. With the exception of Dunn, guard play for Baylor has been below average. In order for Baylor to make the NCAA tournament, they will have to have success in the Big-12 tournament. The Bears finished 18-12 overall and 7-9 in the Big 12. They started the season ranked number 14.

Why College Basketball is Better than the NBA

Sitting through a whole NBA game is painful. As a basketball player and fan watching LeBron James take 4 steps and dunk the ball, or Kobe hold the ball for 20 seconds then throw up a fadeaway jumper hurts my eyes. Here are some reasons why college is better than the NBA.

1) Competition
Look at the Big East for an example. You will almost never see a non-competitive game. In the NBA, we now see "super-teams". This is making the league less competitive, and less appealing for fans.

2) Playoff Play
Is it just me or are the NBA playoffs never ending? They don't end until the end of June! College has a great playoff system with the March tournament. March Madness is one of the most exciting times of the year for sports fans next to the Super Bowl. Crazy upsets and buzzer beaters fill the March air, while the NBA continues its long dreadful season.

3) Excitement and unpredictable endings
Look at the last 3 NBA champions. The Lakers twice and the Celtics. Anybody could have predicted those victories. But when a team like Northern Iowa beats the number one team in the country in the second round of the tournament, that is just unpredictable. When a mid-major school like Butler can get to the finals, or a team like George Mason can make the Final Four it just proves anything can happen in college basketball. Last year even though Duke was a number one seed, many people thought they had no chance to win. Only one person out of 30 people picked Duke to win in my bracket.

In order for the NBA to becoming more exciting again like in the Michael Jordan days, the league has to do a couple things. First of all, a franchise tag (like in the NFL) would help. It would prevent teams like Cleveland losing there star players for nothing. Also, they need to make the season shorter. 82 games plus four best-of-seven game series is way to long.

Is an 18 Game Season Hypocritical of the NFL?
