MLB: The Year of the Prospect

I believe, along with many, that each MLB season has a theme. Last year, it was the year of the pitcher. However, this year is the year of the prospect.

When do you go a day (as an avid MLB fan) without hearing names like Mike Moustakas, Desmond Jennings, Eric Hosmer, Michael Pineada, Brandon Belt, or Brandon Crawford. This is great for the sport because young, new players are stepping up and showing some real potential.

I'm going to start off with Pineada. His fastball and slider are practically unhittable: reaching mid-to-high nineties. He is 6-2 with a 2.72 ERA. If you are a fantasy owner, buy low on Pineda because he has a "small name." However, don't let this small name fool you and remember the name Michael Pineda.

Another name to remember is Desmond Jennings. He is rated number one among hitting prospects, yet the Rays are holding back on him. He has spent most of his time in AAA, yet he has made some small appearances in the big leagues. He struggles badly, going 4-21, yet this is the reason the Rays are being patient. With time, Desmond Jennings will be among the best outfielders in the game.

I'm going to hold off on the other prospects because most of them were covered in previous articles, but don't forget their names. Soon enough, they will be big names in the MLB.

this post is simply wrong.

there is talk of prospects every year, not just this one. last year, it was stanton, heyward, posey, feliz etc
there's nothing special about this year prospect wise. in fact, i think last year's rookies were better.
