Big Apples Eyes on the Prize

While everyone is paying attention to the NBA Draft tonight including mine; at 10:00 my eyes will be glued to the ESPN2 watching the New York Red Bulls vs Seattle Sounders. The New York Red Bulls have emerged as one of the leagues finest. They went from 2009 having the MLS's worst record and the second worst record ever to being first place in the eastern conference. One of the biggest reasons for this giant turnaround is former French national team captain, Thierry Henry. Henry, the leading goal scorer in Arsenal FC history and the MLS this year isn't just a scoring machine, but is now interested in turning a franchise around. Henry was the first to help the Red Bulls, and then brought over former teammate and Mexican national team captain Rafael Marquez. Two years ago, New York were just looking to get a .500 record, but now they have their eyes on the prize. The "Metros" are now looking to be a driving force in the MLS and pull away with first place in the Eastern Conference. Even with half of the Red Bulls lineup playing in this month's Gold Cup tournament, the Red Bulls have still maintained their first place spot. Young academy products such as Matt Kassel and Juan Agudelo have showed that the veterans don't have to do everything. They have both stepped up strongly and have played an important role in the Bulls rebuilding process. The Red Bulls who used to be a poor mans excuse to do something on a friday night are now the team that all metropolitan soccer kids are striving to play for. They are a team to watch out for and could be making a late November playoff run.
