The Boston Bruin's Marc Savard will miss the upcoming 2011-2012 season, due to post-concussion syndrome.
The 34 year-old center has been suffering devastating injuries for the duration of his career, but this maybe the last straw, forcing a very likely retirement.
After missing the commencement of last year due to post-concussion syndrome, Savard returned to the B's lineup midseason. He played in just 25 contests, recording 10 points, before a Matt Hunwick legal hit put him back on the IR for the remainder of the season.
"It's obviously been a long road for me; I'm still suffering with a lot of daily issues right now, it's been a tough go, " commented Savard during an interview with TSN.
Savards concussion problems date back to a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 7, 2010, when Matt Cooke delivered a devastating illegal blow to the head of Savard. This resulted in a Grade 2 concussion. Matt Cooke did not receive a rather deserving suspension for the hit.
Savard was drafted by the New York Rangers 91st overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft, and has played in New York, Calgary, Atlanta, and currently Boston.
